My New Life

I know. I know. I have been slacking. It has just been so busy, getting ready for work, running errands, going to appointments, keeping up with the house, and so much more. BY the time I get a break I just want to collapse. LOL

Okay so I am a part-time concierge, a full-time mom and wife. As far as the job goes I am loving it! I am getting so much interaction with residents. You are probably wondering what I do at work well...

greet potential residents, families, visitors
manage both external and internal calls
take and communicate messages
provide an overview of community information to those inquiries in support of the marketing and sales efforts
monitor the Bistro area for refreshments, music, cleanliness
general administrative duties
Walk, feed and water the dog
Feed, water, and clean up after the finches
Water the plants
Sort and Deliver mail
Update and deliver menus
Update resident profiles
Help host activities for residents
And basically in my spare moments just help out whoever however I can

Yes there are moments where there seem to be 20 things going on at once and I get lost but it really is going very smoothly. As much as I hate to say it I really am enjoying the break from the life as a stay-at-home-mom.

On the other hand, I have been trying to be sure breakfast is served and lunch and dinner are prepared and in the fridge before I leave at 830am. So my morning starts the moment Tommy leaves for PT if not before. Oh yeah, did I mention I have been trying to keep my house in perfect condition. I think I am a bit OCD about it. I see a speck of dirt and I am after it.

By the time I come home make sure the kids are fed and then in bed. I am ready to collapse, but my day doesn't seem to get done until between 10 pm and midnight.

Well, I have more errands to do before work at 4pm. I promise to talk soon.

Update

Well I went to work yesterday for my job preview. I got the job as long I pass my tuberculous test (no prop) and my background check (another no prob). I am great at multi-tasking so I should do fine my only difficulty will be learning all the transfer codes for the phone.

Yesterday evening I had the joy of visiting Fort Carson Evan Hospital's Emergency Room. Don't worry I am fine. Yesterday morning I woke up having a hard time swallowing and what appeared to be an abscess on my right Tonsil. I made it through the day, but By 4pm when Tommy got home I was almost in tears (it hurt worse than contracts when I swallowed). I hadn't eaten all day and only had a few sips of water. I was having difficulty swallowing. So I go in and waited about 20 mins. and was triaged. The triage Nurse had no ideas and yet from the time I left her office it wasn't two minutes before I was called into an actual room. Well the Dr. did a rapid strep test that came back negative but sent to others to be cultured. Between the seven Drs. and Nurses she was the only one that had an idea. She then prescribed toradol and decadron shots and penicillin and ibuprofen pills.

This morning it is better, but still oozing puss and bleeding. I wore a mask last night just in case it is something contagious. Lord, I pray it's not strep. I don't need Elaine to get it again. It took eight months to get rid of her last strep case. ( She doesn't get it in her throat but rather on her bottom.) Yes I know weird.

Well the hubby is about to head out and go clothes shopping at a few local thrift stores for the kiddos. All kid clothing and outfits are .99 cents and all other items except blue tags are 50% off. Maybe I can get some rest and knock this thingy out.

Tata for now!

Pretty sure I got a job!

So right after I posted my blog yesterday I get a phone call asking me if I can come in this morning at 8:30 am to about 10:30am. Of course I said yes. So really keep your fingers crossed today. I am super excited. I haven't had any job other SAHM and waitress/trainer since 2004. This is what I call an actual real job that I can advance at. Don't get me wrong being a SAHM is one of the most demanding and hardest jobs ever. Especially during the toddler and potty training years, (I haven't experienced the other years just yet). This is for the concierge job at the assisted living community. The hours will work perfectly with my hubby's schedule and in 6 months I can go from part-time to fulltime. Meaning I can get my son in preschool, also I will get all those benifits I mention yesterday.

Well I will post back later. Right now I have to get breakfast made and get dressed. I am super excited. YAY!

Ugh!

Paying for Pre-k and KINDERGARTEN
It turns out Fort Carson charges for pre-k. I knew that was a possibility, so Tj has to wait until I find a job before he can start. Once I explained things to him he seemed to understand. I am going to set him up a little pre-k area here, complete with a desk, posters, books, crafts the works. I am going to make it my goal to have him visually recognizing a few words and hopefully reading even more.

On the same note...well sort of, Fort Carson makes you pay for Kindergarten!!! Can you believe that? I have never heard of anyone having to pay for kindergarten! Well maybe a private school but that's it. Don't worry Tj will be going to Kindergarten even if its all my paycheck covers.

Job Search Update

As far as the job search yesterday I actually turned down a full-time job with benifits. I would have had school tution paid for, helth and dental insurance, a 401k, paid vacation time, and paid sick days. Unfortunately it was for a full-time, 2pm -10pm shift. Even if we put both kids in part-time daycare the daycare closes at 6pm or 7pm. And knowing the army there would come those times where they would make him come in late or stay late and I wouldn't have anyone foer the kids.

I feel my interview yesterday went very well. It was with the same company I turned down yesterday just a different location. I really want to get a job with this company. It just speaks to me. There is one more community in Colorado Springs for this company if I don't get a job from my interview yesterday.

Today is a call-back day, meaning I will be calling back the numerous places I have put in resumes and try and schedule more interviews. Keep your fingers crossed. I am also going to notify them that I can work the 9am to 5pm shift as well as weekend graveyards.

Okay enough babbling. Time to get busy.

Yay!

I logged onto my dashboard this morning and tinkered with it some and now I have all of the blogs I follow back! I follow 33 blogs so I was in a bit of a moment last night when I realized my dashboard was saying I wasn't following ANY blogs. All is good now. Today is another interview day, so keep your fingers crossed. I also will be registering my kids in daycare and pre-school today. Right now I just finished doing dishes, laundry, un-packing four more boxes, and dusting. So I thought I would post an update inbetween my sneezing fits. Last Sunday we didn't make it to church, but Tommy keeps saying we are going this Sunday. Well, I still have lots of little things to do on my to do list before I have to leave at 1030am. Later.

11 August 2009

OH NO!

Why is my dashboard saying I am not following any blogs! Where are all of my good reads??? Meanest Mom, Stepford Mom, My litter of six, Deal Seeking Mom and so so so much more?

Elaine got her ears pierced yesterday!

I can't believe I forgot to share this! Elaine was so great too. The lady at Icing by Claire's marked her ears. I held her. One, two, three...her left ear was done. One, two, three...the right ear was done. Very quick and very little crying Check out her photos below and here is the link to Icing http://www.icingbyclaires.com/ear_piercing.asp

No word

Okay so I don't think I got the job. There is still no word. Oh well, that just means Monday I will be hitting the streets job searching again. I have already mapped out a course of 8 nursing homes.

On another note my husband has surprisingly decided that not only to have family prayers, but now he wants to go to church on Sundays since a base chapel is across the street. Now I just keep hoping and praying I can convince him to go to church with me, but this is a great step!

Yesterday I went thrift storing. Have I mentioned I LOVE the thrift stores up here!!! I found some great deals on stuff for making Elaine's butterfly room she wants:

Queen - White, Blue, and Green Comforter with beautiful flowers and butterflies - $7.50

Shelf - In a matching blue - 1.50

Blue Flower Shaped lamp - .75

Other deals were:

Autumn Table Cloth - 7.99

Burgundy table cloth - 3.50

2 James Patterson books - .50 each

4 Disney books - .29 cents each

and a Disney's Little mermaid series VHS - .25

I am a thrift store-aholic! So far up here I have visited 2- Arcs, 1-Goodwill, and a privately owned thrift store. Next weekend I plan on hitting up the flea market.

What has been your recent good find at a Thrift Store?

Job Interview Day

Okay so today I have a job interview at an assisted living home for Alzheimer residents. It is a group interview (I have never done one before). I am nervous and excited at the same time. It has been a very busy week. Monday I went job hunting, to the post office to mail off my CNA stuff to get my certificate transferred, ACS to find out about contracting on post, and actually managed to score today's interview. Tuesday I had to run Tommy around because of his car. Then came home and did my BLS certification online through AHA. Wednesday was maintenance, the cable guy, and part 2 of my BLS. So wish me luck.

I am back to blogging.

Wow its been awhile...2 months. Lots has happened and is still happening.

We moved to Colorado - It's BEAUTIFUL! The kittens all found new loving homes. I had to leave two great friends, Amanda and Laura. Sorry guys I suck at goodbyes. I have managed to make a new friend Samantha. Tommy bought a new car. My mom has moved in with her boyfriend. I am job searching - I really can't wait to go to work again. Tj starts pre-k this month. And my baby girl is potty training and hates being called my baby. :(

Well, the drive from Texas to Colorado was beautiful. Unfortunately I didn't pull out my camera until the second day. So here are some photos:
